Do I need a building permit?
Requirements depend on the federal state, municipality, the size of the structure, the distance to the property boundary and the local Bebauungsplan (development plan). Even if a structure counts as verfahrensfrei (exempt from a separate permit procedure), it must still comply with applicable building, fire-safety and planning regulations.
Before placing an order, we recommend checking the conditions with your local Bauamt (building authority). We'll provide the technical data of the structure needed for a review or an application.
What to do if you're not sure?
If you have doubts about the boundary distance, the Bebauungsplan, or the permitted dimensions, it's better to clarify this before placing an order. Contact your local Bauamt or submit a preliminary inquiry (Bauvoranfrage).

Important to remember: Verfahrensfrei only means there is no procedure for obtaining a Baugenehmigung — it does not exempt you from complying with building law (dimensions, distances, structural stability, GRZ, owners' rights).
